The Upper Peninsula S’more, Michigan’s UP

  • Marion Lake Campground Dulyea Road MI, 49969 United States (map)

WHAT, WHEN & WHERE

Join us for a weekend of camping and riding in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We will have a whole campground by ourselves, right by a lake in a wonderful lush forest. You will have the option of riding either paved or unpaved roads (or both!). I promise you will think you are in the remote wilderness of Alaska while you are there.

When - Friday July 15 - Monday July 18 (but you can leave on Sunday, of course). Dinner (optional) and riders meeting on Friday night at 6pm at the campsite. If everything goes well, we will have a pizza oven…need we say more?

Where - Marion Lake Campground, Watersmeet, Michigan's Upper peninsula (375 miles/6 hours from Chicago). A group ride from the Chicagoland will be available. Members from other areas are encouraged to organize their own group rides if they wish.

Riding - this is a unique S’more, which offers both paved and unpaved options. As usual, group rides will be offered on both Saturday and Sunday, but you don’t have to join them. GPX files will be distributed to all participants in advance, and you are welcome to do your own thing, or just do nothing at camp. Whatever YOU want.

  • Paved roads: there will be group rides to Copper Harbor, Porcupine Mountain State Areas and everything in between. GPX files will be provided in advance in case you don’t want to join a group ride.

  • Unpaved: this area is ripe with forest/dirt roads passing by small alpine lakes, and they start right off our campground. We will give you GPX files, but there will be local guides leading shorter and longer rides in the woods.

Other activities available: you don’t want to ride and you would rather do something else? You are in luck: there is a swimming beach right at campsite; there are hiking trails connecting 34 little lakes in the Sylvania wilderness area; you can go kayaking, canoeing, fishing, cycling/mountain biking.

Camping facilities: this is primitive camping. There are picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, drinkable water, but no electricity and no sewage.

Cost: $40 per person (3 nights of camping + all gpx files + unlimited s’mores, of course) + $10 for dinner on Friday (optional). CAMP members only. $40 is the total, NOT per night.

Please note: CAMP S’mores are open to members only. If you are not a member, you can buy your membership here.
